    A Bluebird Breakfast

Last week we decided to stretch out our money a little bit and go out for breakfast and lunch instead of just going out to dinner.  We decided to go to back to Bluebird Diner because I was craving their biscuits and gravy.  Luckily we got there at a good time and got right in.  Usually it is pretty busy, especially on a Sunday morning, but somehow we were even lucky enough to find a parking spot without driving in circles for ten minutes.

The inside of the Bluebird is nice and open, yet it still feels pretty cozy inside even with all of those crazy mirrors.  But its not a bad crazy, they are actually pretty cool and some of them are really BIG!  I also like the boomerang designs on the tables.

That breakfast looks so good! I have only been to the Bluebird Diner for lunch but it was delicious (I had the smoked chicken salad). I would definitely like to try it out for breakfast sometime!

Bluebird does a good job. I wish they did breakfast all day. The burgers are good too.

Great place for breakfast: Red’s Alehouse

    DSC01513

I went to Red’s Alehouse this morning for a late breakfast. I have only been there a couple times and thought the food was really good.

Red’s is about a 15 minute drive from Iowa City. Just take Dubuque St. north towards North Liberty and you should notice Red’s on the left side of the road.

I ordered the breakfast flatbread.  It was easily the best breakfast pizza I have ever eaten.  But it’s not like I have eaten many b-pizzas before besides the occasional stop at Casey’s.

    Breakfast at the Co-op

I had a little extra time this morning so I decided to walk down to the New Pioneer Co-op and grab some breakfast.

Last time I was there I saw a few signs advertising that they had breakfast burritos.  Since I have an affinity for burritos, and really anything edible, I thought I give one a try on my way to class. I got the veggie burrito and it cost me $4.80 with tax.  I was so excited to try it, I had to take a picture.

Yes, this picture got me a lot of weird looks, but I really took the picture for one reason.  As a film major, I am still not comfortable taking pictures and shooting video in all situations.  I am always worried about getting in someone’s way and am always left wondering what people are thinking of me while I am shooting.  So not only is this an incredibly well framed photo, it is also an exercise in self consciousness.

The fall colors were so beautiful that I took some more photos on my way to the journalism building…

When I finally got to the J-School, I picked up a copy of The Daily Iowan and took a moment to reflect with my burrito.

Everything I had eaten from the co-op up until this point had been amazing.  The burrito was wrapped in a wheat tortilla and looked promising from the get-go.  When I took a bite, all I could see was mushrooms and it was pretty tasteless. It was super messy too.  I suspect the mushrooms were canned due to the excessive amount of leakage coming out of the bottom of the wrap.

I probably won’t be getting another burrito from the co-op anytime soon, but this could have been amazing with a bottle of Louisiana or some Tabasco.  Then again, what isn’t amazing with hot sauce?

That’s too bad that your burrito wasn’t as delicious as you anticipated. I like the photos of the leaves you took, especially the second one – it’s so pretty!
